Objective –> Run DCPromo on the system that was created in part 1.

This is not a recommended way of setting up SharePoint, but due to the hardware limitations on my laptop I have no other choice. Basically, this will be a 1 server setup of SharePoint 2010 beta 2. In the part 1, a machine was setup with Win 2k8 R2 server x64, and Hyper-V enabled. In this post, the objective is to promote the machine to a domain controller.

Click Start –> Run–> Type DCPROMO –> Click Ok

It will scan your machine, and will show a screen as follows. Check the checkbox – Use Advanced mode installation below and click Next.

    Click Next.

Select Create a new domain in a new forest, click Next

Type the domain name (I am choosing – dotnetscraps.com) and click Next.

Let the NETBios name be as it is… and click Next

Choose Windows Server 2008 R2 for Forest functional level

For more details on Recycle bin check this out. For Authentication Mechanism assurance check this.

    Click Next again.

You can get a warning like this…

I chose to click Yes for the time being
Choose the locations. (I will leave the defaults) and click Next.

    Select a password

Review the Summary, and click Next.

    Check Reboot on completion

Okay, the domain controller is up and running now.

The next post will start from where it is left today. Stay tuned… Wave

Cheers,
Rahul
